Dan Schmidt joined the editorial staff of Deer & Deer Hunting Magazine in 1995. He was named editor in 2002, becoming only the fourth person to hold that title in the magazine’s history. He has hunted whitetails for 25 years. Each year, he hunts whitetails with his bow, rifle, shotgun and muzzleloader, and has hunted whitetails across the United States and Canada. Before joining D&DH, he was an award-winning newspaper editor, reporter and outdoor columnist.

Besides his work on D&DH, Schmidt has written the critically acclaimed book, Whitetail Wisdom: A Proven 12-Step Guide to Scouting Less & Hunting More. He has edited eight other books, including 25 Years of Deer & Deer Hunting: The Original Stump Sitters Magazine.

Schmidt’s credits also include regular segments on Deer & Deer Hunting TV, plus many other appearances on national deer hunting videos, TV shows and radio programs.
